Year R
Friday 10th January 2025
This week in Year R we have loved being back with our friends! We have been back to business, building houses and trains, creating tall towers, exploring the exciting ice from this chilly weather and loving our new vets role play!
Next week we will be learning about a special nursery rhyme...I wonder if we will be able to fix him in the vets or build him a wall with our construction skills...
Friday 13th December 2024
This week in Year R we have been practising our Christmas show! We have been busy decorating the classrooms ready for Christmas with some new crafting skills and have been using our teamwork outside to build Santa's workshop!
Next week is our Christmas show and a lot more festive fun - we can't wait!
Friday 6th December 2024
This week in Year R we had to postpone our pond trip to find a Bog Baby so instead, we have tried to make our own pond in the garden! We have also made a post office ready for our festive letters and had lots of fun decorating our classrooms ready for Christmas!
Next week we will be busy rehearsing for our Christmas show, how exciting!
Friday 8th November 2024
This week we have been reading the story of 'The Bear Hunt'! We have loved exploring the vocabulary and acting out the Bear Hunt using the words we have explored. We went on our very OWN bear hunt - ask your child if we found that sneaky bear!
In Maths we have been continuing and creating repeating patterns using natural objects, colours and our bodies!
It has been lovely to come back after half term and hear all about the exciting activities that we have been up to - especially Halloween fun. With that in mind, next week we will be reading 'Room on the Broom' and continuing with our love of potions... I wonder what kind of magic we can conjure up...
Friday 25th October 2024
This week in Year R we have continued our potion mixing and creating by making giant pots of different coloured potions and seeing what happens when we mix the colours together!
We have been reading Leaf Man this week and so have been on more autumn walks to collect leaves and use them to create some natural art and pictures.
We have loved using the musical instruments to help us tell the story of The Bear Hunt in Music. After the half term we will be reading The Bear Hunt and going on our very OWN hunt...I wonder what we will find!
Look out on Tapestry for an autumn challenge over the holiday!
Friday 18th October 2024
This week we have been enjoying Autumn walks, collecting leaves and using them and using them in our play to make necklaces, craft pictures and confetti!
We have been working collaboratively to build and extend obstacles courses to practice our balancing skills and strengthen our gross motor skills.
We have enjoyed learning more new sounds, and listening for sounds at the beginning of words.
Next week we will be finally cutting up our pumpkins and exploring what is inside! We will also be bringing home a 'library' book that we will swap each week. This will be a story for our grown ups to read to us to enjoy.
Friday 11th October 2024
We have been very busy in Year R this week! We have been learning the sounds m a s d and t in Phonics and practising how to write them on our whiteboards. In Maths we have been making a 'match' and looking at what is the 'same' and 'different' before we start to compare amounts. We had a fun trip to the library on Monday afternoon! We buddied up with a child from Year 2 and they read us a story. This was especially lovely for our children who have siblings across the school. Our most exciting moment this week has to be our visit from the police! We learned that the police look after us by keeping us safe and if we are lost we can look for someone with a badge. We know to call 999 in an emergency - but not for things like a lost toy! They also talked about their dogs, their uniforms and even showed us their police van!
Next week we will be learning about independence as one of our school values and we’ll be having our photo taken by Portsmouth News on Wednesday morning!
Friday 4th October 2024
This week in Year R we have been busy showing our school values of respect, but also our independence. Look how we are accessing our own resources in the craft area, using fine motor skills to peel and cut tape and create beautiful artwork. We have introduced balance bikes to our outside learning space and know that it is so important to keep safe and wear a helmet on these bikes, especially as we like to go so fast! I wonder if you can be independent at home too?
Next week is going to be an exciting time for learning as we will be starting to teach phonics with the children. The first sounds we will learn are m, a, s and t! Ask the children about these when they come home! We are also lucky enough to be having a visit from the local PCSOs who will be teaching us about how to stay safe and about how they help us. We will be telling them all about how we have been showing respect.
Friday 27th September 2024
This week we have been getting our hands dirty planting in the garden. We have been busy fixing the fencing from all this wind and continued our construction play by working as a team to build houses to shelter from the rain. Let's hope next week the weather is a bit brighter, but please remember we love playing outside in all weathers, so please send in coats on rainy days.
Friday 20th September 2024
This week we have been at school full time! We have worked really hard and must be feeling so tired! We have had an exciting week that included our first PE lesson, making new friends and finding a caterpillar! We can't wait to see what next week brings.
Friday 13th September 2024
This week we have been so confident exploring during our settling-in sessions. We have been busy making new friends, picking tomatoes to make tomato soup in the mud kitchen and digging for treasure in the sand! The Year R staff are so impressed with the listening skills and tidying up already and can't wait to see you next week when we start our first full time days!
