Leadership Announcement March 2024
As you are aware Mrs Cook the Headteacher of Bidbury Infant School will be leaving the school at Easter. The Governing bodies of Bidbury Infant School and Bidbury Junior School have looked at whether the two schools could work more closely together and whether there was sufficient benefit to be had by taking such an approach. It should be stressed that any such collaboration between the two schools would primarily be for the benefit of the children and families they serve. It is not a short-term cost-saving exercise.
To this end the Governing bodies have decided to enter a period of collaboration, sharing one Headteacher with the intention to begin to consult on the possibility of federation in the Autumn term 2024. It should be noted that any federation is a legal process which will require consultation and agreement with the various stakeholders. Inevitably this process will take some time to complete.
Therefore, with effect from the start of the summer term 2024, the following has been agreed:
– Miss Hicks will become the Interim Executive Headteacher and will split her time across both schools.
– Mrs Quehan will assume the role of Acting Headteacher at the Infant School when Miss Hicks is at the Junior School.
– Mrs Quehan will be supported by Mrs Foy and Miss Thomas.

New School Timings from 1 September 2024
Further to our recent letter regarding the proposal to change the length of our school day, we can now confirm the consultation has been completed.
From 1 September 2024 our school hours will change to:
8:40am – Gates open
8:45am – Classroom doors close (recorded late after this time)
3:15pm – School ends
This change is in line with the government recommendation that all schools should open for 32.5 hours per week from September 2024.
Please be assured that childcare provision before and after school will be adapted to fit around the new school day.
School Closure Thurs 2nd November – due to Severe Weather Warning – Storm Ciaran
We hope this post finds you well. We are writing to inform you that due to the severe weather warning in place for Storm Ciaran, Bidbury Infant School will be closed today, Thurs 2nd November. Our primary concern is to ensure that everyone remains safe.
Our decision to close has been made in the best interest of the health and safety of our pupils and staff. We have considered matters surrounding travel to school and travelling home alongside likely dangerous conditions inflicted by the storm around our school site throughout the day. We have already experienced damage to the school and have no electricity in parts of the building.
Please note the following details regarding the closure;
School Closure Date: Thursday 2nd November 2023
All on site classes, events, and activities scheduled for this date will be cancelled.
We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and updates will be provided as necessary regarding the school’s reopening on Friday 3 November.
